After literally years of wanting to come up with a “floating” platform bed frame design, I have! It’s quite different from my original design; it has a “ledge” around the top and the mattress sits inside a deeper well. The photo below is of the prototype, a fir queen I made in order to figure out the design before building it out of cherry and walnut for a customer. The joinery is pretty ridiculous and there is about two bed frames’ worth of materials here, so the cost will be significantly more than my original design, but I haven’t yet figured out how much. As always, the whole thing disassembles into a stack of boards.
